Short film competition organized by the HEC Montréal International Business Film Festival

HEC Montréal, an internationally renowned business school, is organizing a business-themed film festival to be held November 3 to 6, 2011. Over this four-day event, close to 30 films, including fiction, documentary, feature and short films, will be screened at HEC Montréal, with commentary by reputed researchers and intellectuals offering a reflection on the world of business. The theme of this inaugural edition of the festival will be: “Can a company function without a leader?”


As part of this event, HEC Montréal is launching a short film competition reserved for students at the university and pre-university level. The contest is open to documentary, fiction or animated films, whether previously screened or not, with a maximum running time of 10 minutes. The films submitted should address the question comprising the festival’s theme: “Can a company function without a leader?” The films should be in French or English, or dubbed or subtitled in one of these languages.


The deadline for entries is August 31, 2011. Candidates have until this date to send us the duly completed entry form (see below), along with payment of the registration fee ($15, payable by cheque or credit card) and a DVD copy of the work entered in the competition (postal charges are at the expense of the candidate; copies will not be returned).


The festival’s selection committee will choose the 10 films it judges to be the most interesting in terms of their contribution to the festival theme, on the one hand, and in terms of their cinematographic qualities, on the other. These films will be screened during the festival and judged by a jury made up of film professionals and researchers specializing in business. The creators of the three best films will receive an award in the form of a bursary with a minimum value of $300.
